How to test the light-blocking properties of Blackout Sunscreen Fabrics
1. Sample pretreatment
Before conducting the light-blocking test, the roller blind fabric sample needs to undergo standardized pretreatment. First, select a representative fabric segment, ensuring the sample is free of wrinkles, damage, or stains to avoid these factors affecting the uniformity of light transmission. Then, place the sample in an environment with stable temperature and humidity for a period of time to allow the fabric to adapt to the test environment's temperature and humidity conditions. This eliminates fabric stretching or structural changes caused by environmental variations, ensuring the sample is in a stable state during testing and providing an accurate basis for subsequent testing.
2. Light transmittance detection
A professional light-blocking testing device is constructed, comprising a stable light source, a light-receiving sensor, and a sample fixing frame. The pre-treated fabric sample is flattened and fixed on the frame, ensuring the fabric completely covers the light path between the light source and the sensor, with no light leakage from the sample edges. After turning on the light source, the light is directed perpendicularly onto the fabric. The sensor receives the intensity of the light penetrating the fabric and transmits the data to a dedicated testing instrument. The instrument analyzes and calculates the fabric's light transmittance, which directly reflects the fabric's fundamental ability to block light.
3. Criteria for shading effect
The shading level is determined based on the light transmittance test results, combined with industry-standard shading grading criteria. If the fabric has extremely low light transmittance, allowing only a very small amount of light to pass through, and effectively blocks external light in practical use scenarios, creating near-darkness indoors, it is classified as a high shading level. If the transmittance is moderate, blocking most strong light while allowing a small amount of soft light to enter the room, creating a semi-dark environment, it is classified as a medium shading level. If the transmittance is high, only slightly reducing light intensity and failing to effectively block strong light, it is classified as a low shading level. The determination process must be combined with actual application needs to ensure that the grading results meet the usage requirements of different scenarios.
4. Test environment calibration and verification
To ensure the accuracy and consistency of test results, the testing environment and equipment must be calibrated and verified regularly. First, check the stability of the light source's intensity. If intensity decay or fluctuations occur, replace the light source or adjust the parameters promptly to ensure consistent light source conditions for each test. Second, calibrate the sensitivity of the light receiving sensor using a standard light-shielding material for comparative testing. If the sensor's detection data deviates from the standard value, adjustments and corrections are necessary. Simultaneously, maintain a clean testing environment, preventing dust and debris from adhering to the sample or equipment surface, which could affect the normal propagation and detection of light.
