Introduction to sun protection fabrics

Nov 20, 2023

Sunscreen fabric is a special textile fabric that has the function of resisting ultraviolet radiation. It is often used to make sun-protective clothing, hats, parasols and other products to protect people from UV rays.

Sun protection fabrics usually have a tightly woven fiber structure to block UV rays from penetrating. These fibers can be natural fibers (such as cotton, linen) or synthetic fibers (such as polyester, nylon), which have been specially treated and added with sun protection functions. Some common additives include UV absorbers, UV reflectors, and UV scatterers.

When choosing sunscreen fabrics, you can pay attention to the sun protection index (SPF) and ultraviolet blocking rate (UPF) on the product. SPF refers to the protection ability of sunscreen products against ultraviolet B waves (UVB), while UPF refers to the protection ability of sunscreen clothing against ultraviolet A waves (UVA) and ultraviolet B waves (UVB). Higher SPF and UPF values indicate better sun protection.
